Sartorial Male event at the State Library of NSW

Opening on Monday at the State Library of New South Wales is ‘On Sale! Shops & Shopping’, a major new exhibition for 2011.

The exhibition captures the glamorous, alluring and practical world of shops, shoppers and shopping – from yesteryear to today – with over 250 amazing objects (many on show for the first time) including: vintage fashion catalogues, rare packaging, quirky promotional objects and fascinating images of market stalls, street vendors and shoppers through time.

To launch the event, a talk entitled ‘The Sartorial Male’ took place featuring a panel of experts chaired by fashion historian and exhibition curator, Margot Riley.

The panel comprised of Theo Poulakis, EVH client and joint owner of Harrolds, Australia’s Luxury Department Store for Men, Patrick Johnson of P.Johnson tailors and GQ Australia’s editor Nick Smith, who’s combined knowledge gave a fascinating insight to both the history and future of menswear both internationally and in Australia.
